STRIPE OR GOCARDLESS
Use Stripe to get paid by card, an instant and universal method suited to one-off purchases and international customers; use GoCardless for SEPA direct debit, which fits recurring payments and membership dues in France, where GoCardless itself states a cost around half that of cards. They are not mutually exclusive: with PayFacile you connect one, the other or both without writing code, and let the customer pay the way they prefer.
Stripe positions itself as financial infrastructure: cards, wallets, 135+ currencies and payment methods. Its strength is instant card payment, accepted everywhere, ideal for a first purchase or an overseas customer. The downside: on long subscriptions, cards expire and get declined, which causes renewal failures.
GoCardless calls itself "the easy way to get paid," built around the bank account rather than the card: automated Direct Debit / SEPA across 30+ countries. Its strength is recurring payment: the customer signs a mandate once, collections follow, and long-term failure rates are lower. The downside: it is not instant, funds take a few days, and the mandate needs a trust relationship, so it does not suit an impulse sale.
It is rarely "Stripe versus GoCardless." Many businesses do better offering both: cards to convert fast, direct debit to hold renewals. With PayFacile you connect your own Stripe and/or GoCardless account, no code, and the money lands directly with you. Your account, your money.
