Restrict content access (content gating)

Restrict access to your blog articles or pages to paying subscribers: activation, how it works, and visitor experience.

What is content gating?

Content gating lets you reserve certain blog articles or storefront pages for customers who have an active subscription to one or more of your products. It’s a powerful tool to monetize your content and deliver exclusive value to paying subscribers.

Example: you sell a "Premium Membership" subscription. You can restrict certain articles to only customers who have subscribed to that product.

Enable restriction on an article

In the article editor, check Restrict access. A list of your products appears. Select one or more products: only customers with an active order (running, in trial, or completed) for one of these products will be able to see the full article content.

The system is product-centric: there’s no tier concept or hierarchy between subscriptions. Access is verified by the presence of a matching active order.

Visitor-side experience

When an unauthorized visitor tries to access a restricted article:

  • They see the title and a preview of the article
  • The full content is hidden behind a paywall with a message inviting them to subscribe
  • A link to the required products is displayed

Logged-in subscribers with an active order see the full content without any restriction.

Content gating on pages

Access restriction also works on pages created with the page builder. The mechanism is identical: enable Restrict access in the page settings and select the required products.

FAQ

Can I restrict an article to multiple products?
Yes. Select multiple products from the list. The visitor will have access if they have an active order for at least one of the selected products (OR logic).
Are restricted articles indexed by Google?
Yes. The article title and preview are publicly visible and indexable by search engines. Only the full content is protected.
