Download link expiration

Understand how download link expiration works on PayFacile: duration, renewal, and access via the customer portal.

How expiration works

When a customer purchases a digital product, PayFacile generates a signed download link with a validity period. This link is included in the order confirmation email. Once the configured time has passed, the link becomes inactive and no longer allows downloads.

The expiration duration is configurable under Settings → Options → Digital Products. Available options are: 24h, 48h (default), 72h, 7 days, or 30 days.

What the customer receives

After their purchase, the customer receives an automatic email containing:

  • Their order confirmation
  • One or more download buttons (one per file)
  • A link to their customer portal

Each button points to a temporary signed link. The customer can click it as many times as they want as long as the link hasn’t expired.

If the link has expired, the customer has two options:

  • Log into their customer portal: they’ll find all their purchases and can download their files again
  • Contact you: from the order details page, you can resend a download link via Actions → Resend download link

The new link follows the expiration duration configured at the time of resending.

FAQ

Can I change the expiration duration after a purchase?
Changing the duration in settings only applies to future links. Previously sent links keep their original duration. However, you can resend a new link that will use the updated duration.
Is the customer notified when their link expires?
No, there is no automatic notification at expiration. The customer is informed of the validity period in the initial email. If they need a new link, they can log into their customer portal.
