Manage subscriptions
Your customer wants to change their card? Take a pause? Cancel? Here are the most common scenarios and how to handle them.
The most common scenarios
You manage subscriptions and your customers have requests. Here’s how to handle the most common situations:
- "I want to change my card" → Send the customer portal link. The subscriber updates their payment method on their own.
- "I want to take a break" → Suspend the subscription via Actions → Suspend. Billing stops, the customer keeps access until the end of the paid period.
- "I want to cancel" → Terminate via Actions → Terminate at renewal (customer keeps access) or Terminate immediately (access cut off right away).
- "I want to postpone my payment" → Change the renewal date via Actions → Change renewal date.
View a subscription
All your subscriptions are in the Orders menu. Active subscriptions display the Running status. The detail page shows:
- Customer information (name, email, payment method)
- Associated product and pricing
- Next renewal date and next billing date
- Complete payment history
All available actions
From the detail page of a running subscription:
- Change renewal date — postpone the next renewal
- Change billing date — modify the billing day
- Suspend — pause without terminating
- Reactivate — resume billing after a suspension
- Terminate — permanently end the subscription
- Terminate at renewal — schedule termination at the next renewal date
Each action triggers a notification email to the customer.
The customer portal
Your subscribers have access to a private portal where they can view their subscription, download invoices, update their payment method, and terminate (if you’ve enabled this in Settings → Options).
Send the portal link from Actions → Resend portal link.
FAQ
Can my customer update their payment method themselves?
Yes, via the customer portal. The subscriber can update their credit card or direct debit details at any time without requiring your intervention.
How do I know when a subscription will be renewed?
The next renewal date is displayed on the order detail page. It's also visible in the orders list.
